Dail Frye is a nature photographer, artist, teacher, and conservationist. She was born and raised on the congested east coast. Forced to put aside her art for the more practical reality of raising a daughter as a single mother, she found herself in a world of technology and corporate politics. Then in 1984 a friend gave her a 35 mm camera, a flash, and two lenses. He thought it would be a good way to combine her expertise in technology and her passion for art. That was the beginning of a long love affair with photography and our natural world. Dail strives to bring the world around us into sharp focus with the hope that doing so will bring a heightened awareness of the need to preserve and conserve. She believes that if people slow down and take time to observe how perfectly Mother Nature has done her job, they'll feel the responsibility of our job as guardians of the environment. With her images she tries to bring a new and different perspective to the most commonly seen things in our daily life. In the field, Dail immerses herself, poised to capture on film the ever-changing moods and moments of the magnificent natural world around us. She'll wait patiently for the image she knows is there - the moment a nursing calf looks her in the eye with foam dripping down his chin, or the sky turns blood red as the sun sinks below the horizon, or when the morning dew kisses the perfect rose bud. Her book, Walk-About-Chronicles, takes the reader on a visual hike through her travels. With photos, sketches, and stories about the places and animals she's encountered, the reader will feel as though they're with her. She now calls the central coast of California home where she roams the open spaces to capture nature and wildlife that abounds there. |
